Detox is nothing new. It’s been talked (and talked) about for decades across Western medicine, functional medicine, Ayurvedic medicine… there’s no shortage of information or discussion on it. But what a lot of conversations miss is that ‘detox’ is not a blanket term—there are a number of harmful substances that can be present in the body that we need to get out. And while there are some similarities across symptoms, they still tend to present a bit uniquely. Free radicals are a pest that isn’t usually talked about as much as its counterparts (like heavy metals and parasites), but these unstable molecules can be hell on the body as they damage cells and tissues through a process called oxidative stress. Its symptoms are a warning list that your body is full of toxins.
